Rozarii Lynch – Ebb and Flow + Poetry and Imagery
Ebb & Flow: This video project was produced for Irish Heritage Week, and examines my own personal experience as an immigrant through the voice of the Irish sea. Revisiting Ireland and reabsorbing the landscape imagery was an integral part of the journey and process in developing the concept of Ebb & Flow. The Poetry stems from my internal dialogue and emotions as I photograph. The landscapes revive memories.
This work was originally undertaken and exhibited during Irish Heritage Week Festal at the Seattle Center in 2019. It is being revisited, and readings of the poetry were made to accompany the images for the virtual Festal of 2021.
Significantly, during the past year in which travel has been restricted due to the Global Covid Pandemic, as an immigrant who was lucky enough to make multiple trips home in pre Covid times, I have been thinking deeply of the immigrants who never had that opportunity. Those who left Ireland during Famine times, never to return. Those who for financial, political or other reasons, couldn’t return. My heart feels their loneliness and aches for them. My spirit bows to their resilience and courage. My hope toasts to a bright future in both places; the land we live in and the land we left behind.
